Touch, tilt, or a controller: what fits which genre
Control schemes are personal, but some genres clearly favor one over another. I have replayed the same games across touch, tilt, and Bluetooth controllers to figure out where each one shines.
Tilt is fantastic for arcade racers when it is tuned well. It turns the whole phone into a steering wheel and, done right, feels more natural than dragging a thumb. Done wrong, it is a nightmare of overcorrections.
Touch is the default and honestly the best for most casual and puzzle games. Big tappable buttons, no drift, nothing to calibrate. The trouble starts in action games where your thumbs cover the screen.
That is where a controller earns its keep. For RPGs and anything with real-time combat, pairing a controller removed the finger-clutter and let me actually see what I was doing. Not every game supports it, so check before you buy one.
